Black & Flame

The Dance of Light and Shadow

Martine Goulmy

A deep black glass vase, filled with fiery kangaroo paw stems, takes center stage in this intriguing still life. The warm orange light creates a dramatic contrast against the dark background, highlighting the texture and intensity of the flowers. The shadows, playfully scattered across the surface, seem to dance, while the vase serves as a silent observer. This work embodies the power of light and color, where the combination of black and fiery hues evokes a sense of warmth and mystery. The kangaroo paw, with its unique shape and texture, adds a touch of exotic beauty and enhances the interplay of contrasts within the composition. “Black & Flame” is an invitation to pause and reflect on the intensity of simplicity and the balance between darkness and light. My passion for photography began at a young age. At twelve, my parents gave me my first camera, and that gift marked the start of a lifelong journey. With that camera in hand, I discovered how to capture the world around me and tell my own stories. Since then, my camera has been my constant companion, and I have continuously refined my perspective. I am self-taught and have developed my own style by experimenting and following my curiosity.
