Clear Confusion

The Power of Transience

Martine Goulmy

In this work, a white chrysanthemum reveals its most fragile and fleeting side, caught in melting ice. The ice, a symbol of sweetness and joy, embraces the flower as it slowly disappears, unveiling the beauty of decay. The chrysanthemum, a flower with deep meaning, represents happiness, friendship, health, and honesty. In its transience, its symbolism becomes even more powerful and intense. The melting ice leaves behind air bubbles and delicate textures, a silent reminder of the passing of time. This image is not just a snapshot, but a poetic reflection on the balance between life, decay, and beauty. The contrast between the clear ice and the softness of the flower invites the viewer to look closer and discover the story behind the composition. As part of a series of six, this work explores the complexity of impermanence and time. Each image in the series tells its own story, yet together they form a harmonious whole that invites reflection and wonder. Discover the full series and be inspired by the vulnerability and strength of nature.

My passion for photography began at a young age. At twelve, my parents gave me my first camera, and that gift marked the start of a lifelong journey. With that camera in hand, I discovered how to capture the world around me and tell my own stories. Since then, my camera has been my constant companion, and I have continuously refined my perspective. I am self-taught and have developed my own style by experimenting and following my curiosity.
